1. Course Overview

This course develops professional-level competency in designing sprinkler and fire-pump systems in accordance with NFPA 13 and NFPA 20. Participants complete multiple design projects including hazard classification, hydraulic calculations, sprinkler layout design, and fire pump sizing using pump curves. 

 

2. Course Objectives & Learning Outcomes

2.1 Course Objectives 

  • Apply NFPA 13 and NFPA 20 requirements correctly in design practice. 

  • Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler systems. 

  • Select and size fire pumps based on demand curves and system design. 

  • Develop compliant engineering design drawings and submittals. 

  • Apply professional quality assurance and documentation control. 

 

2.2 Learning Outcomes 

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to: 

  • Classify hazards in accordance with NFPA 13. 

  • Design sprinkler system layouts including spacing, coverage, and piping configuration. 

  • Develop complete hydraulic calculation packages. 

  • Select and size fire pumps in accordance with NFPA 20. 

  • Prepare complete NFPA-aligned submission packages.

6. Certificate 

Participants who meet attendance requirements and achieve a final score of at least 70% will receive a certificate of successful completion for NSSP–PR Design of Sprinkler Systems & Fire Pumps – Professional Level issued by NAF Fire Training School. 

 

7. Training Safety & Trainee Protection Measures 

All design activities are classroom based. However, any site visits or lab demonstrations will follow NAF Fire Training School HSE procedures. Participants must comply with trainer instructions at all times.
